Walmart Plans Job Cuts and Office Relocations to Main Hubs
Walmart to Open New Offices in California and Washington, Expand Locations in New York Area

Walmart is making significant changes to its workforce and office locations. According to a memo from Walmart’s Chief People Officer Donna Morris, the company is eliminating some roles and asking employees from its Hoboken office and smaller locations to relocate to key hubs. These hubs include Walmart’s newly opened headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, and its office in Sunnyvale, California.
Walmart’s Office Changes and Job Cuts : Morris explained that the changes are part of a strategy to bring important teams together, improve collaboration, and streamline operations. While Walmart hasn’t disclosed the number of job cuts, employees who are asked to relocate will have at least a month to decide if they will move to the company’s main hubs.
Walmart’s Broader Relocation Strategy: This announcement is part of Walmart’s ongoing relocation plan, which began in May 2024. During the first phase, employees from offices in Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto were asked to move to the main offices in Bentonville, Hoboken, or California. Employees who were still working remotely were also called back to the office.
Walmart first required employees to return to the office in February 2022, citing benefits like improved collaboration and faster decision-making.
Walmart’s New Campus and Office Expansions: In line with its relocation plan, Walmart has developed a new 350-acre campus in Bentonville. The campus features 12 office buildings, amenity spaces, parking areas, and more. The company is also expanding its office spaces in Hoboken and New York City, while opening new offices in Sunnyvale and Bellevue, Washington.
Fostering Walmart’s Culture and Values: Morris emphasized that Walmart’s culture and values are key to its success. “Being together in person fosters our company culture and accelerates innovation,” she said. “We’ve already seen the benefits of having teams work together in person, and this step will help us move forward faster.”
Support for Affected Employees: Walmart is committed to supporting employees impacted by these changes. The company will provide relocation assistance or severance to help employees through the transition.
